Why I Think All Cities Should ban Plastic Straws

 

In case you missed it, the city of Malibu recently banned plastic straws (and other single-use utensils) and I am a total fan of this decision.

I’ve been using stainless steel straws in my kitchen for some time now and can’t even imagine how much plastic waste I’ve prevented by making this small change for myself and my family. Despite its seemingly benign nature, a single plastic straw – although often used for mere minutes by the average consumer – can take up to 200 years to decompose! And even during decomposition, plastic particles are released into the environment, potentially releasing toxic chemicals into the soil, ocean or groundwater, or can be eaten by animals.
